Preserving Life Stories        

A big thank you to Lisa Petrocelli and Maria Canfield from Your Words, Your Story for presenting our EventFULL Living program today – Preserving Life Stories.  Lisa and Maria helped our residents and guests to understand the benefits of memoir creation for themselves and also for their loved ones.  They got everyone thinking (and writing!) about memories that may have been long forgotten.  Thank you so much Lisa and Maria for helping us all jump-start our memories and begin the journey to creating those memoirs.

History of the Appalachian Trail   

We had a full house for our EventFULL Living program, The History of the Appalachian Trail.  Author Jeffrey Ryan traveled from Portland, Maine in his vintage 1985 VW Camper to present for us.  Jeff told the fascinating story of the Appalachian Trail and also of his own personal journey to complete the hike, which took a mere 28 years!  Thank you Jeff.  Our guests really enjoyed your presentation and are already asking when we can have you return.  Watch this space!

Miller-Keystone Blood Drive at Moravian Hall Square  

Morningstar Living was proud to partner with Miller-Keystone Blood Center to once again bring a Blood Drive to Moravian Hall Square.  Miller-Keystone is the only blood supplier to 22 hospitals in our region and they need 450 donors to meet the daily needs of transfusion patients.  The Blood Drive at Moravian Hall Square brought in 19 units of blood which will go a long way to help meet the needs of transfusion patients.  Thank you to our residents, staff and neighbors in the Greater Lehigh Valley community for helping to give someone hope for a second chance.

Wonders of Nature  

Morningstar Living was thrilled to welcome Leslie Kingston as our featured artist for August 2018.  Leslie’s display, Wonders of Nature, shows some stunning photography taken at a number of locations around the world.  These vivid images were enjoyed by many guests who came to our Meet the Artist event and learned the stories behind these images.  Thank you Leslie for joining us and for sharing your talent for capturing the perfect shot.

A New Dining Experience at Moravian Hall Square

Residents at Moravian Hall Square enjoyed a new “Pop-Up” dining experience at Moravian Hall Square.  Culinary Services are offering these new dining options at a number of locations throughout the community … locations that would not normally be used for dining.  Residents gathered on a perfect summer evening at the pop-up restaurant set up at the apartment entrance.  They enjoyed a deli style meal and sangria followed by waffles and ice cream.  Looking forward to seeing where the next pop-up restaurant will appear!

Educational Programs from Morningstar Living

Morningstar Living announces a new series of educational programs for people living throughout the Lehigh Valley.  The series is available to groups and organizations in the region and has been developed to provide instruction, resources and support to seniors and their adult children.  Seminar topics include:

  • Are You Becoming a Parent to Your Parents?
  • Retirement Living Options…What are the Choices?
  • Navigating the Health Care System
  • Taking Care of the Caregiver

Program Facilitator, Sue Himmelreich, RN, MSN, is an Outreach Specialist for Morningstar Living.  Sue earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Cedar Crest College and her Master’s Degree in Nursing from DeSales University.  She has been providing Health Education to individuals and organizations for over 25 years.  “Working with seniors and their families has given us an insight into the topics that concern them the most,” said Himmelreich, “By providing these educational programs Morningstar Living offers a valuable resource to families and provides them with the answers to many of their questions and concerns.”  For full program descriptions or to schedule one or more of these programs at your organization, call Sue Himmelreich at 610.746.1145.


Moravian Hall Square Announces New Support Group for People with Early Onset Dementia

Moravian Hall Square is now offering a support group for anyone who has been diagnosed with Early Onset Dementia.  This support group runs for eight weeks, beginning on Thursday, August 2 2018, 6pm-7:30pm in Galilee House at Moravian Hall Square, 175 W. North St, Nazareth PA. This support group offers a unique support by bringing together people who are experiencing the same things, often at the same time.  People attending this support group will have the opportunity to share their frustrations while learning valuable tips for living well with dementia. 

This support group will address the issues faced by both the individuals who have early onset dementia and the people who care about them.  The group meets for eight weeks, with a new topic being discussed each week.  Moravian Hall Square group facilitators are trained by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Grilling & Smoking at Moravian Hall Square

Delicious!  There is no other way to describe our July EventFULL Living program – Grilling & Smoking.  Our Executive Chef, Matt Sweitzer, treated us to a demonstration of grilling and smoking techniques.  Guests gathered on the Café Patio as Chef Matt demonstrated some of the techniques he uses.  Lots of good food to sample – pork, chicken, and beef.  Matt had also prepared jars of his secret seasoning rub for guests to try at home.  Thank you Chef Matt, we appreciate you sharing your talents for all to enjoy!

Meet the Artist – Linda Kreckel

Thank you to our featured artist for July, Linda Kreckel, for meeting our guests at the Meet the Artist event at Moravian Hall Square.  Linda’s art – Works in Watercolor – is on display for the month of July.  Guests were invited to enjoy light refreshments and conversation with Linda.  Linda is a watercolor enthusiast with an affinity for rural landscapes and florals.  Inspired by travel and surroundings, she strives to capture the realism of the object and balance the soft transparency of her watercolor medium.  Her work will be on display at Moravian Hall square for the month of July.

Summer Lunch Program

Our staff and volunteers helped out at the Summer Lunch Program in Nazareth.  They spent time preparing sandwiches and bagging lunches for those in need in the Nazareth area.  The lunches, distributed at the ball field on W Center St, included a treat prepared by our residents.  This is a community service program developed by the Nazareth Ministerium with volunteer service provided by groups and organizations in the community.  We are proud to be part of this community service.

Summer Concert 2018

We were thrilled to welcome The Large Flowerheads to the Pleasure Garden at Moravian Hall Square for our Summer Concert.  As we continue to celebrate our 30th year anniversary this was a great way to invite the greater Lehigh Valley community to join in the celebration.  Guests enjoyed a trip back to the ‘60s as the Large Flowerheads performed numbers from The Beatles, Neil Diamond, Sonny & Cher, The Rolling Stones, to name just a few.  Pre-show entertainment was provided by the Moravian Hal Square UPBEATS, our drumming exercise class.

A GROOVY time was had by all!

Raptor Ecology at Moravian Hall Square

We were thrilled to welcome Rachel Spagnola to Moravian Hall Square.  She presented an EventFULL Living program – Raptor Ecology.  Rachel is a Master Educator with Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton, PA.  Our guests learned about the history of this one-of-a-kind refuge and about the habits and attributes of raptors.  We enjoyed meeting her “co-workers”, the Cooper Hawk and Screech Owl.

Scholarships Awarded at Moravian Hall Square

June is bursting with good news from Moravian Hall Square!  Resident Marilyn Brewster spearheads the effort to raise monies from individuals in residential neighborhoods that provides funding for annual scholarship awards for student employees to put toward their post-high school education.  This year, five (5) awards in the amount of $1,000 each were granted to employees.  More than 40 scholarships have been distributed in the eight years that there has been a student scholarship program.

Francesca Bartolucci will be attending Moravian College and hopes to study graphic design with a minor in marketing.  She has a passion for art and multi-culturalism.

Alaina Karcher is headed to Simmons University in Boston to major in English and minor in creative writing.  She hopes to pursue a career in the publishing industry.

Christina Karcher continues her studies at Northampton Community College and will move onto Moravian or Temple to further her academic career in Business Administration.

Stephanie Kosmidis is already enrolled at Northampton Community College and volunteers with the American Red Cross.  She plans to continue her education toward a degree in Occupational Therapy.

Jade Lawson will begin her five year degree program for Occupational Therapy at the University of Scranton this fall.  Jade loved helping to plan themed events and socials for the residents during her service time at Moravian Hall Square.

Congratulations to these five young women as they continue to learn and grow so that they can serve and make a difference in their careers!

Moravian Hall Square Honors our Fallen Heroes

The Moravian Hall Square community held a special ceremony in honor of Memorial Day.  Residents, staff and friends of the community gathered for readings, prayer and song, along with a special rendition of Taps and a dove release in honor of those men and women who have died serving our country.

This event was part of the year-long celebration of Moravian Hall Square’s 30th Anniversary, with special events being held on the 30th of each month.

Morningstar Senior Living, Inc. Announces New Director of Nursing at Moravian Hall Square

Catherine Reese, RN, Director of Nursing, Health & Wellness Center, Moravian Hall Square

Morningstar Senior Living announces the appointment of Catherine Reese as the new Director of Nursing in the Health & Wellness Center at their Moravian Hall Square campus in Nazareth, PA. 

Reese received her Bachelors degree in Nursing from DeSales University in 1994.  Since then she has held diverse nursing positions with increasing administrative responsibilities that included risk management and restorative programs.  She has demonstrated leadership and commitment to the field of long term care nursing, primarily focusing on quality of care, quality of life and the safety of residents.  Reese resides with her family in Whitehall, PA.

Capturing the Moment…with a little bit of paint

We extend a big thank you to artist Fran Macdonald for spending some time meeting our residents and guests at a recent Meet the Artist event here at Moravian Hall Square.  Fran was the featured artist for the month of May, displaying her work – Capturing the Moment…with a little bit of paint.

Fran’s beautiful display was on show for the entire month of May – thank you Fran, for sharing your wonderful talent with us.


EventFULL Living: My Dear General

We recently welcomed acclaimed author Jeffrey E. Finegan back to our Moravian Hall Square campus to present our EventFULL Living program.  Jeff delivered a fascinating seminar entitled My Dear General: The Extraordinary Relationship between George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.  He discussed the meteoric father-son relationship forged between George Washington and the young and vibrant French aristocrat who traveled from France to fight at his side during the American Revolution. 

Thank you Jeff for sharing your passion for history with our audience.  We are very much looking forward to book number four!
